A Letter to Our Churches

10.24.2020

Friends,

I hope that you, your church staff, and your congregation are all staying well and safe during the Coronavirus Pandemic we are facing. If ever there was a time our community needed the hope found in Jesus, it is the present day.

I am contacting you today as our election season continues to progress. My conviction is that anyone who is able to vote, should. As Christians, we are called to stand firm on our convictions. I believe one of the best ways to do that is through voting.

A recent study showed that 40% of Christians are not even registered to vote. This number is concerning to me. The Bible teaches us that we are to be leaders in our world. Leadership can be shown in multiple ways. One good way is through voting for the beliefs you hold to. If every Christian voted in this country, we would see change like no other. We would see the principles outlined in the Bible be brought into the laws. All votes are important, but the Christian vote is special to me, as I myself have been born again into the family of Christ.

Therefore I am asking for your help. I do not want to tell anyone how they should vote, however, I believe voting is one of the most important actions in government that anyone could take. My request is that you encourage everyone in your congregation to register to vote. All eyes are on North Carolina in this election, so now is the perfect time to take part in the process!

Would you also consider praying for all of our current leaders and candidates? That we would live out the words of Romans 12:8: “The one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.”

Sincerely,

Jim Burgin
